Shipping from Malaysia to Australia

Importing from Malaysia to Australia

Malaysia is a major source of electronics, furniture, rubber products, building materials and food for Australian businesses. Fastrak Logistics manages your freight from Malaysian suppliers to Sydney and anywhere in Australia, with customs clearance and delivery handled by the same team.

Short transit times and frequent sailings make Malaysia a reliable route for both regular container shipments and smaller LCL orders.

We ship from Port Klang, Penang, Tanjung Pelepas and Pasir Gudang, and by air from Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Container shipping – importing from Malaysia to Australia

Sea Freight from Malaysia

  • FCL (full container): a 20ft or 40ft container for your goods only. Usually the best value from around 13 to 15 cubic metres.
  • LCL (shared container): pay only for the space you use, ideal for smaller orders.
  • Supplier consolidation: combine goods from several suppliers into one shipment.

See our sea freight service for more on FCL and LCL.

Air Freight from Malaysia

For urgent, small or high-value shipments, air freight gets your goods to Australia in days rather than weeks, with customs clearance on arrival.

Sea freight from Port Klang to Sydney usually takes around two weeks port to port, depending on the shipping line. Air freight usually takes a few days. We confirm timings with every quote.

Documents You’ll Need

  • Treatment certificates for timber, rattan or bamboo goods where required

Save on Duty with MAFTA

Under the Malaysia–Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA), goods made in Malaysia that meet the rules of origin can enter Australia duty-free.

To claim it, you need a MAFTA certificate of origin issued by Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Some goods may also qualify under the ASEAN–Australia–New Zealand agreement (AANZFTA) or RCEP. We can help you work out which suits your goods. GST of 10% still applies.

Furniture, Timber and Rattan

Malaysian furniture and homewares are popular imports, but timber, rattan, cane and bamboo products are checked closely by Australian biosecurity. Goods may need to be free of bark, insects and soil, and some require treatment before shipping.

Ask your supplier for treatment certificates where needed, and check the BICON database before you order.
