Duty-Free Under SAFTA

Under the Singapore–Australia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), Australian duty is eliminated on goods originating in Singapore.

SAFTA uses self-certification: instead of a government certificate, the importer, exporter or producer can declare that the goods meet the rules of origin, as long as the declaration includes the required information. GST of 10% still applies.

Goods Made Elsewhere, Shipped via Singapore

Many goods shipped from Singapore were made in other countries. SAFTA duty rates only apply to goods that originate in Singapore, so goods made elsewhere are charged duty based on their actual country of origin.

If your goods pass through Singapore from another country, the origin shown on your commercial invoice must be the country where they were made. Getting this right avoids incorrect duty claims and delays.
