Save on Duty with AI-ECTA
The Australia–India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) came into force on 29 December 2022 and removes Australian duty on most goods from India.
To claim the lower rate, you need an AI-ECTA certificate of origin issued by an approved body in India. It is valid for 12 months. Goods should travel directly to Australia or stay under customs control during any transhipment, so check this with your supplier. GST of 10% still applies.
Food, Spices and Biosecurity
Many importers bring in food from India, from spices and rice to snacks and sweets. Food imports must meet both biosecurity conditions and the Imported Food Inspection Scheme, and some products need an import permit or treatment.
Timber packaging, cane and bamboo goods, and handicrafts made from natural materials can also attract biosecurity checks. Tell us what you’re importing and we’ll check the requirements before you order.
